As a result of the completion of the calls launched by The National Science Centre, the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS in Olsztyn came in second place in the domain of life sciences when it comes to the size of the subsidy, and in the third when we take into consideration the number of grants awarded. In the November issue of a nationwide montly Forum Akademickie an article by Andrzej Jajszczyk, director of The National Science Centre, titled „NCS- the first experience” was published. This article constitutes an overview of the initial period of Centre’s activities, as well as the first competitions for conducting basic research. The publication includes e.g. the summary of the results in three fundamental research domains: (i) social sciences and humanities; (ii) physical sciences and engineering; (iii) life sciences. We have the pleasure to announce that in the domain of life sciences the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS in Olsztyn came in second place when it comes to the size of subsidies granted by NCS. When taking into account the total number of grants awarded, the Institute occupies the third position. It needs to be emphasised that the double winner in this area was the Jagiellonian University and that our Institute competed for the the places on the podium directly with the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAN in Warsaw. The success seems to be even greater as taking into consideration only the historical aspects, the competition with such recognized scientific units (The Jagiellonian University almost 650 years and The Nencki Institute more than 90 years of history) consitiutes a significant honour for the hard work of our staff (less than 24 years of activity). |
