.
Supramolecular Systems for Recognition and Sensing in Water

COST-EUROPEAN COOPERATION IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Start date: 15.03.2011

Duration: 36  months

Events: First meeting of the COST  was held  in Brussel  on 10 April 2011.

Research plan:

The main objective of this COST Action is to develop supramolecular systems that work in water.

Through the investigation of the multiple weak non-covalent, but collectively powerful interactions that allow efficient and selective recognition processes to occur in water, it will be possible to boost the application of such systems toward the achievement of several major goals.

  •  the de novo design of receptors able to monitor biologically and environmentall relevant species
  •  the control, by biomimetically inspired systems, of supramolecular reactivity in water
  •  the production of self-assembled organized structures which are stimuli responsiv   and which can be used for programming functions in materials and devices such as  sensors and biosensors  .

Secondary Objectives:

  • Gain insight into the nature of weak interactions in water
  • Achieve high selectivity
  • Apply the principles of supramolecular chemistry to the design of simple enzyme models
  • Obtain self-assembly in water
