The aim of the project The aim of this project is to design and obtain electrochemical immuno- and genosensors allowing the detection of Plum Pox Virus (PPV) and Prunus Necrotic Ringspot Virus (PNRSV) in the plant material (leaf extract). The Plum Pox Virus is most dangerous viral disease of plants of the genus Prunus (plums, peaches and apricots). PPV is spread by vegetative propagation and transmitted by aphids. Symptoms are visible only after 3 years of infection. Harmfulness of the disease is associated with the weakening of the growth of infected trees, reduction in yield and deterioration of its quality, premature fruit drooping and increased sensitivity to stress factors. Trees susceptible varieties may die.
Leaves and fruits of plum infected by PPV Prunus Necrotic Ringspot of Stone Fruit Trees is one of the most dangerous viral diseases of cherries. The virus is transmitted from pollen and seeds. Infected trees grow very weakly, and the yield is often lower by 80%.
Cherry leaves infected PNRSV On 26 May and 27 October 2011, working meeting related to the implementation of the grant took place at the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research.
