      GENERAL RESEARCH PROFILE

        Research activity of the Department is oriented toward isolation, purification and physico-chemical and kinetic characterization of sperm hydrolytic enzymes of fish, mammals, and birds.      We also conduct studies on effects of environmental factors on the quality and biochemical parameters of turkey and boar sperm.
         In cooperation with the Department of Semen Biology practical experiments are carried out concerning improvement of sperm cryopreservation and genomic manipulation.
         As a result of this research, our Institute received a grant from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for creation and maintaince of Fish Sperm Bank.

      CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS

    • Characteristics of proteolytic activity of fish seminal plasma;
    • Acrosomal sperm of sturgeon and anacrosomal sperm of rainbow trout as a model for analysis of animals acrosomal enzymes;
    • Effect of zinc level in diets on reproductive efficiency of turkey and biochemical characteristics of semen.
